11:30 PM Wednesday Day 45

By babysimpson

So Zoe had his suregery today and it was a success.  He was in and out with a G Tube in no time.  Everything seems to be going well.  His liver size is reducing but slower than the doctors would like.  This seems to continue to mess with his platelet count and causes him to need transfusions.  I know that healing sometimes takes time and so we wait.  Patiently impatatient if that makes since to anyone….

We were asked today to speak to some teens from a local church who were volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House, so we shared Zoe’s story.  There are two primary emotions involved everytime we tell Zoe’s story.  First is the why?  Why did God do it?  Why doesn’t He do it for everyone?  I can say God is all knowing or we’re just blessed.  But it’s hard to say my faith was just bigger or better, mainly because I just don’t believe that “faith for healing” is the only thing going on.  For Carmen and I we know God will, from beginning to end, be glorified.  Then we just believe His Word.  The truth is I don’t know why “us” and not “them,” why “this time” and not “that time.”  That emotion keeps us humbled and won’t allow Zoe’s story to be bragging rights.  The second emotion is just knowing that God is the one who has brought Zoe to this point, that makes us want to shout and give Him glory.  The fact, that every question asked should have an answer having something to do with Jesus, is one that surprisingly comes with caution.  You want to say things like, “Sure the doctors did a lot, but God did the most.”  Then we quickly exclude those who didn’t get their miracle.  It’s like looking another believer in Christ in the face and saying, “My God’s better than yours.”  That’s crazy.  Sure God is the responsable party.  He is the one who did the impossible in Zoe’s life, but He’s the same God who didn’t in the child’s life just two beds over from Zoe.  It’s not just that we go to God asking, but it’s the manner in which we do.  God’s not just the leader of a cool club we get to be a part of.  He’s everything.  We trust Him to do what’s right.  I have come to the conclusion that faith is more than just claiming the prize.  Faith hinges on trust, and trust is understanding that you will not understand.  “His ways are not like our ways, and His thoughts are not like our thoughts.”  They are just different, and we cannot comprehend them.  So when we share Zoe’s story it is important that we do so yes giving honor and glory to God who is responsable, but to also be aware of the fact that my faith was not the demand that made it happen.  My faith through obedience and trust just enabled it to happen. So without fear we try to maintain the balance of those emotions and gladly tell Zoe’s story.  Why?  Because anytime God is involved, it is a story that needs to be told, and we have the responsability to rell it right, so that everyone may be drawn to Him.

You may remember me asking you to pray for a young man named John Paul who was recently in a car wreck returning to school here in Savannah from home.  He was supposed to have surgery today, but could not because his temperature spiked.  The doctors believe he has pneumonia.  John Paul is in need of a miracle so I ask again that you would pray for this young man.  If he were your son would you want believers believing for his healing?  Yes.

Also some of you may know Scott Martin a missionary to India.  I am working on a project with him and he sent me an email asking me to pray for his daughter.  She has contracted Dengue Fever which can be fatal.  Please lift this family up and believe for healing in this young girls body.

I know that many of you have been and continue to pray for Zoe.  Maybe you don’t check in everyday or multiple times a day, but Zoe is on your heart and mind.  Carmen and I are thankful for that.  We have had strength through some tough days recently, because of the love and support of so many believers.

I am glad the surgery went well and do desire for every part of Zoe’s body to function properly. Your thoughts are thought provoking to me. How much do I really trust is a question for myself. I appreciate everything you guys are doing for all of us. Last night during youth we sang “Mighty to Save”. We all know God has saved us from so many things and we should believe he will do the same again. I know he will be with us through the fire and the strong waters. It is his word.

  2. Marie Woodard Says:

Prayers are on the way for each of your request. God knows your heart. I am so impressed that you in your need still reach out to others in need. Thank you for sharing your heart. Every one of us has a different road to walk and everyone of us can learn from where you and your family has walked. I know the path has been rough at times and I know it would have be so easy to see things in the natural and accept what you were told and just gave up. Zoë’s story has and will touch more lives than any of you will know this side of heaven and God has His purpose for it all. We can’t lean on our own understanding. If we did I know at times I’d be in a mess! Keeping each of you in my prayers. God bless you.

  3. Brandi, Jason, Wyatt, & Whitley Says:

We are so happy that the surgery was a success. THANK YOU LORD! We will continue to pray for Zoe and the others you have mentioned. We know that you can not wait to be HOME, all 5 of you. Thanks again for sharing your family and faith with us.
    love & prayers

  4. Tammy & Rodney Says:

Hey guys glad to hear the good news. We are praying that yall will be home next week! We miss you all! Tell the kids I miss them and give them a hug and kiss for me. Carmen put on some lipstick and kiss Isaac for me. I know he love’s that. Still praying and believing, Tammy

  5. Shirley Kirby Says:

    My dear Jim and Carmen,
It is so liberating to be in Christ. This freedom allows you to be so tranparent because as you live in Christ, instead of you, people will see Him in your lives. This is why I say God is sticking out all over you guys. Every action and decision is intentional to bring God glory. In Christ, we boast not for ourselves, but for His glory. Thanks for being so transparent!
I have prayed for many people and you are right, we don’t understand God. He tells us to trust in Him with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding. God is no respecter of persons, but I will say this; I believe when He says to whom much is given, much is expected, that He knew He could trust you with this and your obedience allowed God to work through your situation and bring Him the glory, praise and honor He deserves.
God impressed upon my heart to pray for healing with unwavering faith….not the “if it be Your will” prayer that we often pray. I struggled because many are watching my faith to see who my God is. I asked myself if I had the faith to pray believing and to be vocal about praying that way. I do not know God’s will, but I know his call for me to pray believing for healing. I am sure I am not alone, and I questioned myself saying “What if God healing Zoe was dependant on my prayers of faith alone?”. What a convicting thought.
At this point, You and I have to trust that He is going to do what is best and obey His call. We can claim and stand on His promises. I loved when you, said that if the doctors called and said that Zoe had passed away, you would still say that God had worked a miracle. AND HE HAS! We must walk this road of faith believing. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen. I love to see the evidence of God revealed through the miracle of Zoe’s healing. We don’t see the innerworkings that are going on and can’t explain it all except that GOD IS GOD and He is doing what only GOD CAN DO!

  6. Tammy & Rodney Says:

Jim after I posted I was reading my bible and came across this scripture in Hebrews 11:5 But without faith it is immpossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must first believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder fo those who (diligently) seek Him. That’s yall being diligent. The word diligent means a constant, consitent, steady effort to accomplish a certain thing.
You my friends have done just that, your faith has pleased him and your constant belief in His power to heal Zoe has worked because, God is rewarding you with healing however it may come. Slow or Fast!
Contiue to diligently seek him for all things!
    Love Ya, Tammy

  7. Carmen Leggett Says:

Amen to Tammy’s post. I believe you have pleased God greatly and He is rewarding you for that. Just as His word says he has plans for all of us, every person on this planet. His plan for Zoe’s life is different from the next child, as well as yours and mine. He has a whole set of plans for us all and we may never know the answers until we meet him face to face. It’s encouraging to read you personal comments and thoughts. Praise God for Zoe’s surgery success and we’ll pray for your other requests as well. Hope to see you soon!!

  11. Kathy Lord Says:

    Jim & Carmen,
I haven’t commented in awhile — I’m battling an inner-ear infection that keeps me dizzy, nauseated, and “drunk” feeling. I had to be drove home from work last Friday and haven’t been able to work any this week. I also haven’t been able to focus my eyes much to read or work on the computer until today. I am so glad to hear that Zoe is still improving — though it may seem slow to you and to us. He has surpassed unsurmountable obstacles in the past weeks; yet, he still remains determined and strong in spite of all that he’s endured. He is certainly a fighter. And so are you two. Such troopers of faith ! You are in my prayers constantly, and day by day I wonder what miracle is taking place. There are so many miracles — many that even you are not even aware of. Zoe, in his mother’s womb, was fearfully and wonderfully made — God formed him with His own hands. God gives him and you two strength moment by moment to continue this fight for life and for total healing. Please know that we are standing with you in this fight for life and healing for Zoe, and we’re looking forward to the day you all come home together as a family of FIVE !!!!
    In prayer for you all,
    Kathy

  12. Cathy Floyd Says:

Jim and Carmen,I was so pleased the surgery went well, praise God,he’s good ALL THE TIME.It seems every where I go I hear something about Zoe.Your situation has blessed and encouraged so many people.Jim you have faught hard for your son’s life, that’s your nature. The first time I met you was when my Aunt passed away, she was like a Mother to me.You seemed so young and yet so comfortable in your walk with christ and you blessed me so much by showing your compassion, and you Carmen, love just radiates from you.I can just see the love you have for Zoe as well as Issac and Katelyn. You have all been together at a time that is so stressful someone one else might have said I can’t keep both kids here and be there for Zoe,but God has given you strength. When I saw the picture of Issac praying for Zoe I knew God had a special blessing for your family.I continue to pray for you each day and look forward to having you guys home soon. Love in Christ,Cathy Floyd

  13. Carolyn Garrett Says:

JIM AND CARMEN I KNOW YOU DO NOT KNOW ME BUT I HAVE FOLLOWED YOUR STORY SINCE I HAVE MOVED BACK HOME TO HAZLEHURST.. BUT AS I WAS READING WHAT KATHY LORD HAD POSTED, SHE WAS TALKING ABOUT BEING FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE. I WAS REMINDED OF THE SONG THAT SANDY PATTY SANG “MASTERPIECE” I HAD THE SONG PLAYED AT BOTH OF MY CHILDRENS BABY DEDICATION. I LOVE THE WORDS TO THE SONG A NEW CREATION HE HAS FORMED AND YOUR
AS SOFT AND FRESH AS A SNOWY WINTER MORN AND GOD HAS GIVEN YOU TO ME YOU ARE A MASTERPIECE….I THOUGHT OF ZOE. I KNOW GOD HAS A PLAN WE MAY NOT UNDERSTAND HERE BUT WE WILL ONE DAY. I AM PRAYING FOR YOU GUYS AND LITTLE ZOE. YOU BOTH HAVE BEEN A BLESSING TO MANY PEOPLE AND I PRAY THAT GOD CONTINUES TO USE YOU BOTH.
    PRAYING FOR YOU

  16. John & Teresa Estes Says:

    Dear Jim & Carmen
Just a not e to say we are still praying for Zoe and the rest of you all. Carmen, Teresa talked to your grandmother a couple of days ago and told us about Zoe. I have put Zoe and you all on our church’s prayer chain and prayer list. So take comfort in the fact that you have a whole church added to the prayer warriors for Zoe. Carmen when I looked at the pictures on the web site you looked very tired which I can understand. To that end I will pray that God will give you the peace of mind that he is in control and that he will give you the rest you need. We love you all and wish we could be there!
    Love,
    John & Teresa

  17. Teena Says:

  18. Vicki Says:

Praise to our Almighty God for the healing He has provided and continues to provide. Thank you Carmen and Jim for the thoughtful insight I always receive in your blogs. I have struggled with what you wrote about today– as if I say I am blessed because provided for my child, do others feel as if they are not blessed or even cursed? Thank you for your words– you continue to provide comfort to me even when you are in the midst of the storm.
